Each set of lines has a solid top line, a dashed middle line and a heavier line to write on. Tall letters such as b, d and h reach the top line; small letters such as a, c and e reach the dashed line. The bigger the child’s writing, the taller the lines: start with ¾ in or 1 in for a child who is just starting, and move down to ⅝ in and ½ in as the writing gets smaller and steadier.
Ask the child to draw first, then write a sentence or two about the picture: what happened, who was there, what comes next. Leave the picture box off for a page of handwriting lines only.

Notebook paper like the filler paper in a binder: blue lines, a red margin 1¼ in from the left edge and the binder holes marked, with a band at the top for your name and the date. Wide ruled to start; choose college ruled for smaller writing.
Wide writing lines with a darker default stroke. Adjust the spacing to suit your writing.
