Alphabet stencils, A to Z, to cut out of card and paint or trace through. Each letter is shaded to cut out, and the letters with a hole in the middle, as A, B, O and R, keep it on white bridges, so it stays put. Choose how tall each capital is, from 1 to 11 inches, standard or heavy strokes, and type the letters you want: a name, a word or the whole alphabet.

Print on card stock, or glue the sheet to a cereal box, at 100% or Actual size. Cut out the shaded parts with a craft knife on a cutting mat, and leave the white bridges whole: they hold the middle of a letter such as O to the rest of the card. Cut the inside corners first, then the long curves.
Painting through it
Tape the stencil flat, then dab paint straight down with a sponge or a stiff brush, rather than brushing across, so paint does not creep under the edges. Lift it straight up while the paint is wet. For a sign, pencil a straight line first and stand each letter on it.
Standard or heavy strokes
Heavy strokes widen every part of each letter and leave smaller holes, so the painted letters come out bolder and read from further off, as on a crate, a garden sign or a playground game. The wider pieces are also easier to cut. Standard strokes keep the letters’ own shape, for neat lettering on cards, labels and smaller signs.
Which size to print
The height is a capital letter’s; lower-case letters with a tail, as g and y, reach a little below the line. At 1 in (2.5 cm) the whole alphabet fits on one sheet, for labels and cards; at 2 in (5 cm) a sheet holds a dozen or more, for small banners; at 4 in (10 cm) four or five, for bulletin boards. Up to 5 in (13 cm) every letter fits across Letter or A4, one or two to a page; narrower letters, as I, L and T, can go taller, and the sheet says when a letter is too wide for the paper. Or choose One a page, and every letter prints as tall as the paper allows: about 5½ in (14 cm) for A to Z, and 7 to 8 in (18 to 20 cm) for most names.
Alphabet letters in outline, A to Z, to cut out or trace for bulletin boards, banners and crafts. Choose how tall each capital is, from 1 to 11 inches (every letter fits on Letter or A4 up to 5 inches; taller ones need larger paper), and type the letters you want: a name, a word or the whole alphabet, capitals or lower case.
Numbers 0 to 9 in outline to cut out or trace, for birthdays, classroom walls and signs. Choose how tall each number is, from 1 to 11 inches (up to 8 inches on Letter or A4; taller ones need larger paper), and type the numbers you want, such as an age or a year.
Bubble letters, A to Z, round and puffed out, to colour in, cut out or trace for posters, banners and bulletin boards, plain or with a shadow for a 3D look. Choose how tall each capital is, from 1 to 11 inches, and type the letters you want: a name, a word or the whole alphabet.
Block letters, A to Z: heavy capitals with square corners, to colour in, cut out or trace for posters, signs, banners and bulletin boards, plain or with a shadow for a 3D look. Choose how tall each capital is, from 1 to 11 inches, and type the letters you want: a name, a word or the whole alphabet.
Bubble numbers, 0 to 9, round and puffed out, to colour in or cut out for a birthday age, a year, a classroom wall or a team shirt, plain or with a shadow for a 3D look. Choose how tall each number is, from 1 to 11 inches, and type the numbers you want, such as an age or a year.
Number stencils, 0 to 9, to cut out of card and paint or trace through: house and mailbox numbers, a team number, a year on a sign. Each number is shaded to cut out, and 0, 4, 6, 8 and 9 keep their middles on white bridges. Choose how tall each number is, from 1 to 11 inches, standard or heavy strokes, and type the numbers you want.
