Long edge or short edge?
Planner pages turn like a book, so choose the flip that turns the sheet over its side: Flip on long edge for portrait sheets, Flip on short edge for landscape sheets, including two pages per sheet. Some print dialogs call these long-edge binding and short-edge binding.
The back reads upright when you turn this portrait sheet like a book.
- Front up. This example prints one page per sheet on portrait A5 sheets (148 × 210 mm). Hold the sheet front up, with TOP at the top. Its long edges are the sides, marked in colour: Flip on long edge turns the sheet over one of them.
- Flip on long edge. The printer lays out the back for a sheet turned over its side, like a page in a book. Turned that way, the back reads upright.
- Turned like a book. Planner pages turn like a book, and Flip on long edge already turns the sheet that way. The back reads upright, with TOP at the top on both sides. Start with this setting.
This shows what the two settings mean, not what your printer will do: drivers name and apply them differently. Print the two-page test from your plan before the full run. If both TOP labels read upright when you turn it like a book, keep that setting. If the back is upside down, switch the flip edge and print the test again.
Print the test sheet
The double-sided test matches the paper and orientation of your refill. It marks the front, back, top and sides, with a target on each side. Print it double-sided with the settings you plan to use for the refill.
Read what happened
First check whether the back is upright and behind the front. If it is upside down, switch between Flip on long edge and Flip on short edge and print the test again.
Then measure how far the back target sits from the front one, across and up or down, in the directions printed on the sheet. You can enter up to 5 mm each way, and the refill builder moves the backs to match; the correction stays listed in the plan summary. It holds only for that printer, tray, paper and orientation, so test again if you change any of them.
Check the order before printing everything
Some arrangements add blank pages so that fronts and backs pair up, especially with two pages to a sheet. The blanks show in the preview before you download, and they never change the order of your own pages.
Print a short run with different dates on each page, cut it if needed and page through it before printing the full refill.
