Which sheet to print

Labelled, with what each part does names the six parts on the picture, each joined to its part by a line, and puts a sentence on what each part does under it. To label leaves a numbered, empty box for each part and puts the names in a word bank; with the answer key, the labelled sheet follows as a second page. The picture is in outline, to colour in.

What each part does

The roots take in water and minerals from the soil, hold the plant in the ground and store food. The stem holds the plant up and carries water and food through it. The leaves use sunlight to make the plant’s food, which is called photosynthesis. The flower makes pollen and tiny eggs called ovules, and once it is pollinated it becomes a fruit, which covers the seeds; each seed holds a new plant. This follows the Missouri Botanical Garden’s page on plant parts, which also points out that some vegetables are other parts of a plant: carrots are roots, asparagus stalks are stems and lettuce is leaves.
