Planets named

Planets with facts

Names to write in

Names to write in, then the answer key

Which sheet to print

Planets named gives each planet’s name and how wide it is, in kilometres and miles. Planets with facts adds a table: how far each is from the Sun, how long its year is and how many moons it has. Names to write in leaves a line beside each planet for its name, and with the answer key the named sheet follows as a second page. The planets are left white, so children can colour them in.

What to scale means here

The Sun and every planet are drawn at one scale, the scale printed at the foot of the sheet, so Jupiter is about eleven times as wide as Earth and the curve across the top is the edge of the Sun, which is far too big to fit. The distances are not to scale: at the scale of a Letter or A4 sheet, Neptune would be about a kilometre from the Sun or more, half a mile or more. Saturn’s bright rings are drawn at their true width. Pluto, a dwarf planet, is not drawn. The figures are from NASA’s Planetary Fact Sheet; the number of moons grows as astronomers find more.
