The labelled sheet explains the four stages and how long each takes. To label, a child writes egg, larva, pupa or bee in each box, with the word bank under the pictures. To cut and glue, the child cuts out the four pictures and glues them in order, following the arrows from the egg in box 1: a good first sheet for a child who is not yet writing. To cut and glue prints the labelled sheet after it as the answer key, and so does To label, then the answer key.
Queen, worker or drone
The bee on the sheet is a worker: a female, and the kind of bee seen on flowers. A hive has one queen, who lays all its eggs, up to 1,500 a day. A larva fed a rich diet of royal jelly grows into a new queen, in 15 to 16 days from the egg. A drone, a male, grows from an egg that is not fertilized and takes 24 days. This follows University of Florida IFAS Extension.
The bees on the flowers
The honey bees seen on flowers, University of Florida IFAS Extension explains, are the oldest workers, collecting nectar and pollen; the pollen rides home packed into a basket on each back leg, as on the sheet. A worker dies after she stings, and European honey bees rarely sting unless provoked.
